Studying law or criminology at Reading provides the perfect balance between academic learning and practical experience.
Learn from experts in the field
As a student at the University of Reading’s School of Law, you’ll benefit from teaching that’s supported by applied research. 99% of our research is of international standing (Research Excellence Framework 2021, combining 4*, 3* and 2* submissions – Law).
You will learn from experienced tutors who are enthusiastic about their subject, and from leading experts in specialist areas such as criminal law, contract law, environmental law, commercial law, and international law. Some of our tutors are expert advisers to government and policymakers, international organisations, and civil society organisations.
You will also benefit from our commitment to the development of your professional and practical skills through problem-based learning projects, commercial awareness training, and work experience.
Real-world experience
You will have the opportunity to take part in client interviewing, negotiation, and mooting competitions, with work experience placements offered as prizes. University of Reading’s School of Law also hosts one of the largest pro bono programmes in the UK, giving you the opportunity to work – on a voluntary basis – with local charities and other institutions where you will give legal advice and support to real people with real problems.
Flexibility
Our flexible law courses also allow you to select modules from outside the school, including those offered by Politics and International Relations, Humanities, Literature and Languages, and Henley Business School.
Careers
The study of law or criminology prepares students not only for the legal profession but also for a diverse range of other careers.
Intellectual strength, a practical approach to the world and the ability to communicate clearly are skills highly valued by employers within local and national government, international organisations, the voluntary sector, and business.
