In studying with us, you will develop the critical, analytical and professional skills to explore cultural, political and environmental processes. You will do so through learning about and conducting cutting-edge research on topics such as climate change, resilience and adaptation, community development, sustainable consumption, energy production, environmental pollution and natural hazards.
Our internationally renowned academic staff carry out research across the world, including the rainforests of Liberia, the Andean mountains of Colombia, the shanty towns of Mozambique and the sand dunes of the Namib Desert, all of which feeds directly into teaching.
You can specialise in either human or physical geography from the beginning, or, on our most popular degree, develop a mix of both human and physical geography. Our courses are flexible and student-centred, allowing you to follow your interests within geography and in other related subjects across the University.
Research opportunities and training are central to your experience with us. Collect your own geographical data on one of our overseas field trips and analyse data in our high-spec computer suites. Here, you can access the latest software, including Geographical Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing and image processing packages. We offer award-winning teaching and innovative, problem-solving assessment methods, practical skills development, and a year of professional experience.
Our study abroad programme offers you the opportunity to apply to study at one of our partner universities in Europe, Australia, Canada or the USA. All classes are conducted in English and bursaries are available to help with travel and accommodation costs.
GeogSoc is our very active student society that organises social and academic events throughout the year, including extra-curricular trips, formal and informal get-togethers. You will also have a student mentor to help you make the transition to university.
Our degrees are designed for you to develop attributes desired by employers, so you’ll acquire an impressively wide range of transferable skills to take with you into further study or work.
