Film & Television
Here at Minghella Studios, we train ambitious students in film and television, and help them become well-informed and confident screen practitioners.
Studying film and television at Reading means you’ll be based at our purpose-built, £11m facilities that feature a multi-camera film and TV studio, a digital cinema, and dedicated recording studio and mixing suite.
You’ll study the histories, styles and social impact of film and television, and apply these insights and ideas to collaborative screen productions. Your practical work can include directing, projection, sound and lighting, as well as post-production techniques such as editing, colour grading and sound mixing. Plus, Minghella Studios is home to a team of dedicated technicians, supporting your creative journey.
Our Department is also home to a team of leading academics, who specialise in topics such as:
- world cinema
- digital effects
- comedy and performance
- youth television
- environmental cinema
- action cinema
- documentary filmmaking
- scriptwriting
- videographic criticism.
Being at Reading will place you in one of the fastest-growing screen industry hubs in the UK, with a thriving theatre and performance scene. You’ll also be close to Shinfield Studios (hosts to the recent filming for Netflix’s ‘Bridgerton’ and Disney’s ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ and ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’) which are built on our land and part of the Screen Berkshire partnership. We also have partnerships with Albert Education, Arri Certified Film School, FEST, Rabble Theatre, Reading Rep Theatre, Climate Change Theatre Action and South St Theatre.
Our Department proudly subscribes to the industry-leading BAFTA Albert scheme, which supports film-and-television makers in their efforts to work sustainably and limit their environmental impact. By studying with us you'll join one of the UK’s leading Universities in Environment and Sustainability’ Ranked 1st in the world in the People and Planet University Awards 2023/24.
