Further Information on standard Postgraduate Taught Admissions Checks

Any applicant to one of our programmes will need to meet the applicable Standard University Admissions checks, in addition to the academic and English entry requirements, for the programme they are interested in studying.

Any offer, or confirmation, of a place is conditional on these checks being satisfactorily passed. The standard checks that the University applies are listed below:

Criminal convictions

Certain programmes such as Clinical Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Teacher Training or Physicians Associate Studies require you to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosure check (previously known as a CRB check) as standard. You will be told of such a requirement in any offer made to you.

Declaration of Health

Certain programmes, within the Institute of Education and School of Clinical Language Sceinces, will require a satisfactorily completed, Declaration of Health assessment. You will be told of such a requirement in any offer made to you.

Professional skills tests

Certain programmes within the Institute of Education require satisfactory completion of a professional body test or exam. You will be told of such a requirement in any offer made to you.

Right to study check and ability to sponsor a Student Route Visa

If an applicant has studied in the UK before, or is currently in the UK, we will check that we are able to make an offer in keeping with our duties and responsibilities as a licensed Uk Visas and Immigration Student Route Sponsor.  If we feel unable to sponsor a Student Route Visa for you, we will be unable to make you an offer of a place and will tell you if this is the case.

Verification of academic documents

We will examine, and where necessary seek confirmation from the awarding institution, any documents that you provide as evidence of achieving any required academic award.  We will also expect you to provide full disclosure of all qualifications taken, particularly within the UK if you are a student from overseas.

Verification of English Language competency

Where you have provided one of the University's acceptable English Language Tests, we will verify the test using the test provider's results verification service (where applicable).

Verification of References

If references are supplied as part of an academic package, and not directly from the referee, we may contact the referees directly in order to confirm that the reference was provided by them.  Alternatively we may ask for referendces to be sent in directly from the referees professional email account.  You will be told of such a requirement in any offer made to you.

If you have any questions concerning these standard checks you are welcome to contact the Admissions Team, who will be happy to help you, on pgadmissions@enquiries.reading.ac.uk
