Description
This felling axe, for felling trees, has a metal head and a long wooden handle enabling it to be swung with both hands. The blade is stamped with the name of the maker 'Cowen' and the place it was made (which is unclear). The axe came from Calthwaite in Cumbria (formerly Cumberland) and this pattern of axe was in use until 1900.
