Description
Butter prints were used for leaving a hallmark of the place of origin on blocks of butter and often had symbolic designs. This round print, probably one of a pair, is carved with a shell design with a patterned border. It is made of sycamore, a close-grained wood often used for dairy equipment, where scrubbing and cleaing is important, and has a handle.
