Description
This weeding tool, possibly a weed cutter or thistle cutter, on a 5 foot wooden pole with a pointed end was found under the floor of Turners Hall Farm in Mackereye End, Hertfordshire.

Recorded on Adlib as 'hook'., Letter, Jessie Paterson to the Curator, MERL, 5 March 1958 – ‘Our neighbour Mr William Burton, owner of Turners Hall Farm, Mackereye End, Nr. Harpenden is having electricity put in to his farm house. The workmen had to take up parts of the flooring of the upper story, which is oak with hand forged nails. Found what appears to be an agricultural implement. I enclose a tracing. It is on a stick nearly 5 ft. long, pointed at the further end & we have not been able to identify the wood…’
