This belly band is part of the harness for a cart horse. A belly band is a strap that goes under the belly of the horse to prevent the shaft of the cart from rising up. The harness was used on the Godman Estate in Horsham, West Sussex, and at Pepper Gate Farm in Lower Beeding, West Sussex.
