Description
Trade tokens were often issued in the late eighteenth century by merchants. They were used to trade during times of coin shortages but also for advertising purposes. This token was issued in Ipswich, and features a shield design on one side, and on the other side a sailing boat and plough with text 'God preserve the plough and sail'.
