A sack for animal feed, marked 'BOCM Red Label // Milk Nuts // 112lbs Gross'. The sack may have originated from Brooks Mill in Mistley, Suffolk, which was taken over by BOCM (British Oil & Cake Mills Ltd.). The donor believed it may have belonged to his uncle who farmed at Sibton in Suffolk.

I have an idea that the Mistley mill near Ipswich was originally Brooks and then taken over by B.O.C.M. In which case this probably came from my uncle’s farm, Sibton, Suffolk, after his death in about [19]49–50. My brother went to close down the farming operation. Later in the fifties my brother farmed an Essex County Council smallholding at Barnston near Dunmow. I imagine the seed and feed sacks from Haslers belong to that era. Haslers, Dunmow closed in the eighties. Just possibly some of them are earlier as we lived in the area, Great Waltham, before the war and often bought potatoes by the sack. After that they were always a popular packing material for inter family transfers and in our case more than one removal bringing them North when we retired form Dunmow in [19]84. Some have served their time for garden use as well // …’
