Description
This laundry basket, for domestic use, was made by Mr Sinclair Junior of Lerwick, Shetland Islands, and was collected by the donor in the Orkney Islands. It is a coiled straw basket bound with string, and has a coiled straw lid with a string handle.

Archival history
Although the MERL 'Handwritten accession' form (Museum of English Rural Life) says that the basket 'came from Vaster in the Orkney Islands' there is no such place - Vatster is in the Shetland Islands.
