Description
This is an ink drawing by Thomas Hennell depicting the interior of the hut in Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire, which had contained Harold John Massingham's collection of rural artefacts before they were given to the Museum. The drawing came to the Museum as part of the collection. Thomas Hennell was born in 1903 and died in 1945. He illustrated a number of H. J. Massingham's books.

No. of drawing ). // The collection is described by Massingham in his book [‘Country Relics’ underlined], Cambridge University Press, 1939, which he calls 'An account of some old tools and properties once belonging to English craftsmen and husbandmen saved from destruction and now described with their uses and their stories.'. The title page bears the inscription 'Infinite riches in a little room.' // Thomas Hennell (1903-1945) who did the drawing referred to above illustrated a number of Massingham's books. An informative appreciation of Hennel and his work is to be found in 'A memoir by H. J. Massingham' in [‘The Countrymen at Work’ underlined], written and illustrated by Thomas Hennell, London: The Architectural Press, 1947, pp.5-15.'
