    This is a tankard style pewter mug with a small amount of decoration on the handle and a hallmark which is now illegilble. Lavinia Smith acquired it from Thomas Besley of the Eyston Arms in East Hendred.

    MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'Miss Smith obtained this mug from Thomas Besley of Eyston Arms (East Hendred, Berks?). It is a plain pewter mug, 4.35 inches in height. There is some turning on the base and a small amount of decoration on the handle. It has a hall-mark which is now illegible.', Lavinia Smith Catalogue (D60/28) - 'A list of the contents of the East Hendred museum. July 5. 1940 // 498. Pewter mug. "Thomas Besley, Eyston Arms."'
