Description
This is an oval basket with curved sides, made of fine whole and skeined buff willow. It has a handle running lengthways, and a rope-effect border. It originally belonged to the donor’s grandmother, who purchased it some time before 1925 and used it for general carrying and as a storage container.

Odd number of stakes to achieve slewing. 4 rod wale – 2 sets starting with butts. 3-rod slew, followed by 2 rows of 3-rod wale. // Border: Rope border – English-type and not continental. 2 sets of roping, each one going in front of 1 stake along. // Handles: Lengthways handle. Standard English-type handle wrapped over a handle bow. // Lid: No lid. // Dimensions: Length 390mm. Height 280mm from inside of basket to top of handle. Width at top 220mm.
