The eleven staves are held in place by an iron raising hoop around their base and by a truss hoop around their middle. Every subsequent truss hoop knocked on by the cooper will be smaller than the previous, thus pulling the sides of the staves together. Only once the cask's staves are firmly set in place will all the truss hoops be removed.
68/435
