Description
This is a farmhouse lantern, although Lavinia Smith described it as a parish clerk's lantern. She acquired it from Arthur Harrison, a wheelwright of East Hendred, Oxfordshire (formerly in Berkshire), whose grandfather was a parish clerk. It is very large, with a circular sheet iron body, five windows of corrugated horn, three dormered ventilation holes and a round candle socket inside.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This lantern is described by Miss Smith as a parish clerk’s lantern. She obtained it from Mr. Arthur Harrison, whose grandfather was the parish clerk of East Hendred (Berks). // It is very large and is of the farmhouse lantern type. It has a circular sheet iron body and five windows of corrugated horn. The horn is protected by two pieces of thin wire over each winder. It has three dormers for ventilation, though one of them is now missing. The handle on the top of the roof is also missing.
