Description
A housen is a piece of decoration or protective cape attached to the top of a horse's collar. This housen is made of thick leather and has three straps for attaching it to the collar, and engraved brass plates at the top corners.

July 5 1940 // Horsese [sic] // 5. leather housen bought of Gibbons of Abingdon who had got it at the sale of an old famer James Powell of Garford, whose monogram is on the shields. // 6. Ditto' (The pair seem to have been catalogued twice on two separate lists), Heritage of the Hendreds Exhibition 1969 - 'Catalogue of Exhibits // Number 353 // Housen or Housing // Lent by MERL Miss Smith c.'
