Description
This is a saw edged sickle used for harvesting crops by hand. The stalks would be gathered in one hand and cut with the sickle. This sickle belonged to the donor's father.

Archival history
MERL ‘Associated information’ form – 'Apparently (according to above [A. Hayden] the stalks to be cut were gathered against the outer side of the left forearm with the palm of the hand twisted downwards 7 outwards. The sickle would be sawn back towards the reaper just below arm level. // Belonged to F Hayden – father of above.'
