Blandford Agricultural Society Certificate of Merit,
Description
This is a framed (original frame) and glazed Certificate of Merit from the Blandford Agricultural Society, awarding a coat and ten shillings to George Giles in recognition of thirty years' service on the farm of Mr George Hill. It is dated 20 December 1856 and is signed by several well known agriculturalists of the period. The Blandford Agricultural Society was established in 1839 'for the encouragement of industrious labourers and servants'.

The certifcate reads: 'This is to certify that on the 20th Day of December 1856 a premium of a coat and 10/- was awarded by the Committee of the Blandford Agricultural Society to George Giles servant to Mr George Hill for having worked 30 years on the same farm and always maintained a good character.
