Description
This is one of four paper wrappings for Simonds beer bottles. It is stamped in red with the hop leaf logo, across which is written, 'TRADE MARK' and below which is written, 'THE HOP LEAF // SIMONDS // MILK // BRAND // STOUT'. There is a large tear from the edge opposite the stamp. The wrappings were found by the donor, Mr R. W. Metcalfe, in his mother-in-law, Mrs Violet Rose's, house. Mrs Rose had worked in the laboratory of Simond's brewery. Mr Metcalfe had also worked for the brewery, leaving in 1989 after 27 years. The wrappers may have been used for smaller 'nip' bottles of beer for export.
