Description
This needle was used in the 1920s by Sutton Seeds Ltd. in Reading, Berkshire, to close wicker hampers which were used for transporting seeds and sundries to customers.
Archival history
MERL Miscellaneous note (71/132–73/134) – ‘The items were salvaged from the scrap heap by Mr Walton & brought to the Museum. He is a driver for Suttons Seeds Ltd. who are leaving Reading & re-establishing at Torquay. The items were all used at the firm’s trial grounds on the London Road, probably c. 1920s. Mr Walton has no personal connection with them.’
