  • Description
Fleam, an instrument used for bloodletting, used on horses. Probable used in the Elcot area, Berkshire.
This fleam, a hand instrument used for bloodletting, was used on horses. It has two steel blades. Each bears a stamped crown, the initials 'V. R.', the name 'ETON' and an illegible eight-letter name (which ends in the letter 'T'). It is probable that this fleam was used in the neighbourhood of Elcot, Berkshire, since the donor's forge was established in that area for over 200 years.
