Description
This pair of men's clogs were made in a traditional style by Mr Shepherd, a clogger from Cumbria. The soles are made from birch trunks, and the leather uppers and irons were bought whole-sale and nailed to the soles. The uppers are made from three pieces of black leather and are nailed to the groove of the sole. An additional strip of leather is fastened over this to make the shoe watertight. The toe is reinforced by a double layer of thin metal, also nailed down. The nails of the clog iron are sunk in the narrow groove which runs round the middle of the iron.
