Description
Flower baskets such as this, known as ‘walking baskets’, were carried by small girls in annual Whitsuntide walks of Sunday school children of all denominations – a tradition in the north-west of England. The baskets would be filled with flowers on a foundation of moss. This flower basket was used by the donor’s daughter in Stockport in the 1930s. It is shaped like a small Gainsborough florist’s basket made of cane and with a willow handle.
