This branding iron came from the forge at Southrop and was probably made there. The iron brands the letter 'A', and is surrounded by a circle of points. It is made of wrought iron, and it still has traces on the iron of the tar composition used for branding.

The forge has been in the possession of the Jefferies' family for about 80 years. This iron brands the letter A. It is surrounded by a circle of points. The handle which starts with a short wooden piece, divides into three parts and is welded onto the branding face. There are still traces on the iron of tar composition used for branding //
