Description
This is a measure which was used along with a milk can (66/219/1) by a Berkshire farmer up until 1940 for selling milk at Farley Hill. They were manufactured by Lister of Dursley, Gloucestershire.

It has a rim at the bottom. The lid fits tightly and is attached by a brass hinge. There is also a piece of brass on the front edge of the lid. The handle is attached at the top of the sides and can swing across to rest in a horizontal position. A detachable ring fits inside the can and acts as a seal when the lid is closed. Attached inside at the back is a metal bracket to carry the measure. // The measure is ½ pint capacity and is made of tinned metal with a curved brass handle for hanging. // Use: For selling milk, The large can acted as a bulk supply and milk was sold by measure. // History: This can was given to Farley Hill W.I. and Mrs Guerrier obtained the items when the W.I was disbanded.’
