Description
Twisters were used for making straw or hay rope used in thatching. Usually, two people were needed to make the rope: one person to feed in the straw or hay, and the other to hold the twister and walk backwards away from the feeder. This straw rope twister was found in Mr Conyers’ carpenter’s shop in Theddlethorpe. He said it was used for making ropes to tie up hay cocks when they were left out in the field.
