- Object number63/189/1-2
- DescriptionThese two metal 'roughing studs' were for inserting into horseshoes to improve the foothold of horses in icy conditions. Each stud has a screw thread at one end and a wedge shape at the other. When the horses were shod in winter, a couple of holes were tapped in the shoe and the studs were inserted when the roads became icy.
