Description
This is a cream separator, also called a 'Jersey creamer'. It consists of a rectangular metal container with a domed lid which has two slits along the top for ventilating the milk. It was used for separating milk from cream. It is marked 'The Jersey Co. Ltd.' on the lid, and 'INCHBROOK, NR. STROUD // GLOUCESTERSHIRE + LONDON'.

MERL 'Handwritten catalogue' form – 'JERSEY CREAMER // Processing - Milk', MERL ‘History Artefacts’ card – 'Notes // Description: A rectangular metal container with a domed lid which has two slits along the top for ventilating the milk. There is an inlet pipe for pouring water into the water jacket at one end. Near this is an outlet or overflow pipe. Inside at the opposite end is an arrangement of a long tube + short cone for taking off the cream and/or milk. There is a brass top underneath to drain the water out completely. // Use: For separating milk from cream.
