  • Archival history
Citation in publication [H. J. Massingham, 'Country Relics' (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1939)] –' I also have specimens of every type of roofing stone used. These last are very similar to the heavier "slats" (all true masons hate them to be called "tiles") which I have handled from the Colly Weston quarries [page break] in Northants but, except at the eaves, are smaller than the fine Horsham slabs of Sussex or Purbeck ones of Dorset.' (pp.17-18), MERL list / description [Massingham Collection, October 1989] – 'ACC. NO.: 51/219 // NAME: 6 SLATS // NEG NO.: 35/420 // STORAGE: 2 on P.Ex. (Permanent Exhibition) Stonemason.', Two of these slats can be found in the permanent exhibition; one cannot be found (6th September 2000).
