Description
This decorated grey waistcoat probably came from Yalding, Kent, and dates from the early-nineteenth century. It was known in the family as a 'farmer's waistcoat', and was worn at weddings.

Letter, Alicia Percival to MERL, 17 January 1962 - 'I am now enclosing with the consent of my Aunt, Miss Margaret Eyre, three early nineteenth century waistcoats. They were always known as 'Farmers' Waistcoats' (in the family) and she used to say they were what a farmer would wear on his wedding day. // As she lived in her early days at Yalding in Kent, I fancy they must have come from there...'
