Research
The NUIST Reading research partnership is a unique collaboration that builds on existing research connections between the two institutions, both being world leaders in meteorology. Each has strong links with the wider scientific community: NUIST is one of the Regional Meteorological Training Centres (RMTCs) for the World Meteorological Organisation; Reading is one of the leading contributors of scientific expertise to the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
This shared research agenda led to NUIST hosting a 3-day international research conference in April 2018, focusing on meteorology and environmental science. This event brought researchers from around the UK to China and established the NUIST Reading Research Institute (NRRI) to facilitate ensuing collaborations. NUIST and Reading share a belief in the benefits of a collaborative approach to research, addressing global challenges. The NRRI supports joint research between academics from each institution; both sides have made a substantial financial contribution to pump-prime projects and relationships.
