This mattock or grubbing hoe came from Mr T. Harris of Witheridge Farm in Hailey, Oxfordshire, and was found stacked up with spades, shovels and other weeding tools in normal use about the farm. It was used for loosening the soil during digging. The head is hoe-shaped with a broad end on one side, and a claw on the other side. The head was probably made by Mr Harris in the farm smithy.
