Beskrivning
This is a pipe with a briar bowl and the stem trimmed with silver. The stem may be made from amber. The case has an outer covering of card which looks like leather and is lived with red velvet. It is inscribed inside the case with, 'L B S QUALITY GUARANTEED'. On the pipe is the inscription, 'L. B. S.' inside a triangle. The silver mark on the rim of the pipe reads, 'H &' within a square, while on the stem, also inscribed within a square, is the mark 'HH // FJ' which may be the mark of the maker or the owner. In addition to these silver marks are an anchor and a 'y'. The anchor is the silver city mark denoting that the silverware was made in Birmingham and the 'y' is the date letter mark denoting that it was made in 1898. This is one of a number of objects donated to MERL by Roger Plumb (object numbers 83/98-83/128).
