Mullers were used for heating ale or wine. This conical muller is made of copper and lined with tin, and would have been put into the heart of the fire in a vertical position. It comes from Culham Manor in Oxfordshire.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This muller came from Culham Manor (Berkshire) where it was known as a HOOTER, i.e. hooter. Ale was heated by placing the muller directly in the fire. // It is conical shaped and is made of copper lined with tin.
