Barley forks were commonly used during harvesting for making sheaves of barley ('pooking'), and also used in malting to separate the grains on the floor of a kiln ('furling'). This three-pronged barley fork was found in a smithy yard in Ringwood, Hampshire. It was used up until c.1947 for carting straw to livestock.

The last owner of this farm found it in the local smithy's yard. The Smith went out of business before the war + has left the district. The fork was used by the last owner up to ten years ago for carting straw to livestock...'
