Beskrivning
The bottom handle or 'box' for a pit saw. It is unusual that it has two extra handles so that it can be used for tree felling, as well as sawing logs on a saw pit. It consists of a rectangular wooden block with two round handles projecting on either side. Through the middle of the block there is a slit, into which the bottom end of the saw would be inserted. It would be held together by a wedge thrust right through the block, lying against the blade. When the saw was used in a saw pit, it would be grasped by the latter handles. When it was used for felling trees, one of these handles and one of the additional handles would be used so that the saw cut horizontally instead of vertically.
