This is a teat-cup from a 1925 Vaccar milking machine [58/63/[1-29]), which came from Fockbury Farm in Dodford, Worcestershire. The wider machine consists of a vessel divided by a central partition, with twin outlets and a curved handle of carrying. It has two sets of ‘clusters’ and numerous pieces of rubber tubing. 21 pieces of rubber tubing were found in a very deteriorated state inside the milking machine and were subsequently disposed of.

Архивная история
Letter, Mr A. L. Foster to Andrew Jewell, 26 July 1958 – ‘It was really a wonderful machine & never had any trouble with it, a very good advt. for Vaccar. I expect you know that the Vaccar Machine was originally the Lawrence Kennedy Machine.’, MERL Miscellaneous note, Fred van der Geer, MERL Conservator, March 2010 – ‘These rubber tubes [21 tubes of various sizes] were found inside the Milking Machine with Accession Number 58/63. Due to the inherent instability of the material and the accumulation of the deterioration process, whilst stored in the enclosed conditions of the milking machine vessel, the rubber had perished to a spectacular result (dried out and melted). The decision was made to record the items and dispose of them.’, Object history research, December 2022 - How can this object be described? This is a metal tube with a wing nut at the top and tube at the side. The bottom is open. // What was this object used for? The teat cup is from a milking machine. This teat cup was placed on a cow’s teat to extract milk. The teat cups were lined with rubber liners and connected together in groups of four with rubber tubes. [MERL 2000/17]. // How old is it? The milking machine was made in 1925. It was made by Vaccar. Vaccar began in 1910 and still making milking products. // What does a milking machine look like? This is a similar milking machine [MERL 91/23] made in 1915. The teat cups were connected to the machine with rubber tubes. These pipes have deteriorated over time and broken. It was portable and has a handle so it can be carried. '
