Trade tokens were often issued in the late eighteenth century by merchants. They were used to trade during times of coin shortages but also for advertising purposes. This token was issued in 'Bury', and features a image of a building (Abbey Gate) on one side and an open book with text 'Payable at Rackhams Circulating Libray [sic] Angel Hill Bury' on reverse.
