This is a watercolour painting entitled 'Woodsman'. It has been painted on metal and has a brown and gilt frame. It depicts a man and his dog striding across a wintry, open landscape. The man is carrying a billhook and axe and smoking a clay pipe. The billhook is of a type commonly found in Berkshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire and the South Oxfordshire area. Clay pipes were in use up to the mid 19th century, possibly later in some areas. The picture was collected at the same time as some engineering drawings for the Museum archives from Grove Cranes Ltd.
