Описание
This is a watercolour entitled Fox Hill, by Alfred Waterhouse R. A. (1830-1905). It depicts the landscape view of a wooded pathway beside a lake with a woman and child standing by the lake. The artist, Alfred Waterhouse, was also the architect of Foxhill house at Whiteknights in Reading, Berkshire, which he built for himself. The lakeside in the painting is presumably the view from the front of the house. The painting dates from circa 1879 and is unframed.

It is by Alfred Waterhouse R. A. the architect (1830-1905) who built Foxhill for himself, & whose father Alfred W. I. lived in the house called Whiteknights, to which Waterhouse added a kitchen wing. // The picture shows the lakeside, presumably in front of the house. It is titled Foxhill in Waterhouse's hand with a queried date. // It seems appropriate that the University should have it. & Ian Cooke suggests you would keep it in the Museum of English Rural Life. // As to the building at Elmhurst Rd/Upper Redlands Rd, we have no record of a farm building there but it could be so - would you care to send a photograph or I'll look next time I come to Reading which could be some[‘time’ scored through] long time ahead. // Yours sincerely // Pru Waterhouse'
