Описание
This Austrian egg basket is shaped like a small pannier, with a square bottom and curved at the top front. It is made of chestnut or hazel spale and wire. It has a U-shaped handle which forms the corner posts and feet. This basket was made by the farmer or farmhands on a farm on Mount Gerlitzer in Austria, and used by the farmer’s wife to carry eggs down the mountain to sell from door to door. Larger version of this basket were worn on the back to carry hay and firewood on slopes too steep for a horse.
