Описание
This is a box wheel churn, used for making small quantities of butter from cream. It consists of wooden box of sycamore with a separate lid, a two-armed paddle and a handle. Turning the handle turns the paddle and churns the cream into butter. It is inscribed 'No 00--AD--RDS Patent Declivity' and 'Churn TB Manchester London'.

1 box churn: wood [sycamore]; ironA small wooden box churn with no separate lid. The top opening is partly closed by a piece of wood 12cm wide which is permanently fixed in position. The two ends slope in at the lower edge for 7cm. There are two adjustable pegs on the bottom of the churn which enable it to be tilted to facilitate draining from the drainage hole. The bung is missing. The straight wooden paddle has 2 arms and is suspended by a metal rod with wooden fixings. The handle is made of metal with a wooden end for grasping.
