A dock lifter is a tool used to remove deep seated weeds. This dock lifter was found in a wheelwright's and blacksmith's shop, in Writtle, Essex. It consists of an iron forked point with prongs set one inch apart, a jutting prong for pushing the tool into the ground with the foot, and a curled semi-circular loop for leverage.

The tool consists of an iron forked point with prongs set one inch apart, a jutting iron prong 4 inches long for pushing the tool into the ground with the foot, and a curled semi circular loop with radius of 2 1/2 inches for leverage. Four holes in the iron show the points at which the original handle was attached. // The dock lifter was found in the blacksmith's shop of Wallace and Sons at Writtle. It had a rotten spade handle at the time.'
