At one point, a thatched hut was set up in Trafalgar Square to register new recruits. A national campaign was launched in 1945, persisting well into the 1950s as rationing and labour shortages continued. Some people who 'lent a hand' got a taste for farming, going on to study at agricultural college or move to the countryside. This particular poster was designed by S. Howell and produced for H. M.
