DEACCESSIONED. Please note that this object no longer forms part of the Museum of English Rural Life collection and cannot be accessed at our institution. This winnowing fan has a framework with sacking, and is operated with a handle. A new rail has been put in at the base of the fan. It appears as if new fixing strips for the sacking strips have been put in on one side of the revolving part of the fan.

MERL miscellaneous note - 'Similar to 52/201', MERL miscellaneous note - In the course of object assessments and audits undertaken as part of the Our Country Lives redevelopment project, this item was found to be in a very poor state of repair. In light of this and taking into account its similarity to another artefact in the collection it was not considered to be worth retaining. It was offered to other museums and collections, firstly accredited and then inclusive of non-accredited institutions, within the Rural Museums Network. None expressed any interest in receiving this item by transfer. As a result it was decided that this item should be disposed of by destruction. Disposal was undertaken on 15 March 2016.
