Maxie Lane was an artist, author and sculptor, the son of an "Irish Tinker", who abandoned him when he was young and left him with an Aunt in Bristol. He served in the army and navy and documented his eperiences in his two autobiographical books, Running and Sea Running. His sculpture entitled, The Last Supper Table, is on permanent display at Furzey Gardens, in the New Forest, and is thought to be the largest English elm sculpture in the world. As an artist he held exhibitions allm over the world, includng New York and at the Ideal Home Exhibition in Olympia, in London. He was a guest on television chat shows and featured in national newspapers.

Typescript entitled "Maxie Lane, Woodchopper, Andover". This text appears to be a short autobiographical account of a Gypsy family, as described by the son. He describes his father, as an "Irish Tinker", called Con or Connamarra, and they travelled through Wales. The manuscript annotation suggests that the author of the account is Maxie Lane, author and sculptor.
