This iron rake making tool is known as a ‘rake tooth maker’ or a tining tool. It was used to make the teeth or ‘tines’ for a rake. The tool would be secured to a bench and suitable pieces of scrap wood driven through the holes with a maul. This tool came from East Biggens Farm in Frosterley, County Durham, and probably dates for the late-nineteenth or early-twentieth century.
