Pincers are used by carpenters, other woodworkers and in various other trades, such as smithing and farriery for removing nails and pegs. They are particularly useful for dealing with headless nails and pieces of wire on which the claw hammer would slip. This pair is hand forged.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'Pincers are used by carpenters, other woodworkers and in various other trades, such as smithing and farriery for removing nails and pegs, etc., from a variety of materials. They are particularly useful for dealing with headless nails and pieces of wire on which the claw hammer would slip. They consist of two wide, close fitting, sharp edged jaws working on a rivet between two handles. This pair is hand forged, but have been badly corroded.
