This potato basket was made by Mr Mulholland, a basketmaker and farmer from Aghalee in County Antrim, in 1967 from locally grown green willow, and has never been used. These baskets were used for harvesting potatoes in the fields in County Down (not Antrim). They used to also be used elsewhere but by the 1960s were going out of general use as they were replaced by plastic and wire containers. They took an hour to make. By 1967 Mr Mulholland was only making them on demand.
